Lawyer, HBO screenwriter buy on Byron

Steven C. Florsheim and his wife, Jennifer Friedes, bought a five-bedroom, 3.1 bath at 1637 W. Byron in Lake View for $1.095 million from Scott and Tamara Sheridan on Aug. 23.

The Sheridans paid $1.075 million for the home in March 2004.

Florsheim is a partner and managing attorney for the Chicago law firm Sperling & Slater.

He joined the firm as a partner in 2000, and has since specialized in complex commercial litigation, employment law and intellectual property disputes. He also works in cases involving accounting practices and franchise rights, and regularly practices in bankruptcy courts nationwide.

He joined the firm after five years in the Chicago office of national law firm Kirkland & Ellis, where he was a partner prior to his departure.

He received his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School (1991) and his bachelor's in Political Science from Yale (1987).

Friedes is a screenwriter who penned the script for "Iron Jawed Angels," an award-winning HBO film which appeared on the cable television channel in 2004.

The film, which stars Academy Award winners Hillary Swank and Anjelica Houston, exhibits the struggles of young women during the women's suffrage movement in America. The film won two Golden Globe Awards, and Friedes picked up an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Writing for a Miniseries, Movie or a Dramatic Special.
